I’m always on the lookout for really cool science fair projects–and here is one that combines engineering skills and biomimicry: a simple mechanical bird powered by rubber bands.  It looks like a great way to explore basic engineering principles while also learning about the natural world.

3JWings’ design for a flapping bird looks like a fun and inexpensive project to build, though it appears to require some manual dexterity and obviously some fine motor and model-building skills. (Probably ages 12 and up) Way cool, though.  Kudos to 3JWings for the idea. Here is their video:
